YEAR FIVE - LESSON THREE

RAH - Music and Science - Hearing and Socks!

Hello Year 5!
I hope you are enjoying learning at home!

This Half Term, we are learning how we can combine music with science and

maths to help us gain a greater understanding of all three!

Accompanied by Mike’s musical instruments, we will discover how we can

use music to learn about the world of science.  Mike is a musician, he plays

the tuba (a brass instrument), and he also studied physics at University!

It is quite fascinating!  It is also brilliant to see how we can use lots of different skills

to understand more about the world and our lives.

For these sessions make sure you have a pen, pencil, some paper, and something

that you can shake, bang or play as a musical instrument.

Lesson Three

What are human hearing ranges?

How can you use socks for soundproofing?

To join Mike and discover about human hearing and how socks can be used for

soundproofing, please click on the picture below:

When you have watched the video, please work on the Question Sheet - please click here:

You might find it helpful to watch the film again whilst you complete your work.

Please send your completed Question Sheet and video to your class teacher for

me in the usual way - a photo or a scanned copy will be fine.

I am looking forward to reading your answers, and especially to watching your rap or song video.

That is the end of lessons learning about Science and Sound.  Next time, we will be listening to some very dramatic music!

"I found it very interesting and I thought that children learned about rhythm, by using body percussion without even realising that they were in a lesson, because it was so much fun for them!"

"I would highly recommend it!"

"I thought the song was lovely - there was a nice mix of playing the bowls, clapping, singing and actions. The whole idea of kitchen percussion is a brilliant one for lockdown but good in usual times too."

"The level of what you did/taught was perfect for their age and similar to things they do at school."

"The children all thoroughly enjoyed the session and were engaged throughout. They enjoyed having the opportunity to hold their own ukulele and learn to play along to some simple songs."

"The session was delivered brilliantly and the different stages were broken down into small sections to allow all children to participate."
