YEAR FIVE

Music Lesson Today - 5th May 2021

Hello Year 5!

I can't be with you today, so I have put together your music lesson on this page.

We will be working on three specific areas today:

  1. Pulse and rhythm - Ghanaian rock game

  2. 'Arabian Night' - a new song, we haven't done this before.
  3. If there is time, we will sing through a new French song - 'Kids United - Toi plus Moi'.

1 - Pulse and Rhythm - Ghanaian Rock Game

  • Using the brilliant video from Oak National Academy, we are going to:
  • review what we know about pulse and rhythm
  • perform a Ghanain call and response song called 'Tue tue barium tue tue'.  Instead of rocks, we are going to use bottle tops!
  • TEACHERS - PLEASE GIVE OUT TWO BOTTLE TOPS EACH
  • learn some body percussion in the fun warm up exercise.
  • To begin the lesson, please click HERE.

2 - 1001 Arabian Nights - School Song
  • Last week we learned about the composers Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, and their amazing pieces inspired by Scheherazade.
  • We also did some work on how Arabian and early Persian music was written, and the characteristics to look our for - do you remember the Phrygian scale?
  • I thought it would be fun to learn a popular song written in that style, to help us all really understand the sounds.
  • We are going to learn Disney's 'Arabian Nights'.
  • Listen and read the song through first, no singing.
  • Try and sing the song a couple of times to begin to learn it.
  • I am looking forward to hearing you sing next week.
  • PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR 'ARABIAN NIGHTS'.

3 - French Song - Toi plus Moi

  • This is a great song for us to learn to practice our French.
  • Listen and read the song through first, no singing.
  • It will be quite a challenge to learn the words and sing them along to the video, it is quite fast!
  • PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR 'TOI PLUS MOI' SONG.

That is the end of the lesson.  Well done for working so hard.

I hope you enjoyed it.

See you next week!

"I found it very interesting and I thought that children learned about rhythm, by using body percussion without even realising that they were in a lesson, because it was so much fun for them!"

"I would highly recommend it!"

"I thought the song was lovely - there was a nice mix of playing the bowls, clapping, singing and actions. The whole idea of kitchen percussion is a brilliant one for lockdown but good in usual times too."

"The level of what you did/taught was perfect for their age and similar to things they do at school."

"The children all thoroughly enjoyed the session and were engaged throughout. They enjoyed having the opportunity to hold their own ukulele and learn to play along to some simple songs."

"The session was delivered brilliantly and the different stages were broken down into small sections to allow all children to participate."
