I hope you are enjoying learning at home.
Last time, we met a little boy called George, who went to meet an orchestra for the
first time! When he arrived, the musicians were busy rehearsing for a performance.
Do you remember which instrument George decided that we would like to play?
Please click on the picture to have another look at George's film if you can't remember:
Today we are going to watch and listen to an amazing orchestra play an exciting
piece of music - I bet you won't be able to sit still!
The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra is from Venezuela in South America,
and the musicians are all young people who have learned to play their instruments
as part of a plan to give some of the poorest children the chance to learn music
and help them with their lives. The scheme is called El Sistema, and was created by
Simon Bolivar, a Venezuelan national hero.

Just WOW!!!!
Some things to think about:
I think everyone enjoyed it, I hope you did too.
Activity
Do you remember the four families of the orchestra?:
You will have seen lots of the instruments in their families in the video.
I would like you please to match up the instruments with their musical families
in the pictures and then colour each picture in it's family colour.
Please click on the box below for the worksheet:
I am looking forward to seeing your answers and your beautiful colouring.
Please send your work to your class teacher in the usual way - a scan or a
photo is fine.
Thank you very much for working so hard on this, I hope you enjoyed learning
about the instruments in a Symphony Orchetra. We will learn more next time.
See you soon.

"I found it very interesting and I thought that children learned about rhythm, by using body percussion without even realising that they were in a lesson, because it was so much fun for them!"
"I would highly recommend it!"
"I thought the song was lovely - there was a nice mix of playing the bowls, clapping, singing and actions. The whole idea of kitchen percussion is a brilliant one for lockdown but good in usual times too."
"The level of what you did/taught was perfect for their age and similar to things they do at school."
"The children all thoroughly enjoyed the session and were engaged throughout. They enjoyed having the opportunity to hold their own ukulele and learn to play along to some simple songs."
"The session was delivered brilliantly and the different stages were broken down into small sections to allow all children to participate."
