I hope you are enjoying learning at home.
We have learned about the Piccolo Orchestra and played tunes on the piano. Well done, you
worked very hard on this! Isn't it fun to be able to play music on an instrument?
Today we are going to learn about an Orchestra with a little boy called George.
George lives in a town called Sydney in Australia. He is going to meet an orchestra for the first
time! When he arrives, the musicians are busy rehearsing for a performance.
He wants to learn an instrument, but he can't choose!
Let's go with George as he chats with players of the Sydney Youth Orchestra and learns all about
the four families of the orchestra:

I would like you please to colour in some pictures of instruments you might find in an
Orchestra. Next to the picture, please write down the instrument name and it's
musical family.

and please click on the box below for the answers.
I am looking forward to seeing your answers and your beautiful colouring.
Please send your work to your class teacher in the usual way - a scan or a
photo is fine.
Thank you very much for working so hard on this, I hope you enjoyed learning
about the instruments in an Orchestra. We will learn more next time.
See you soon.

"I found it very interesting and I thought that children learned about rhythm, by using body percussion without even realising that they were in a lesson, because it was so much fun for them!"
"I would highly recommend it!"
"I thought the song was lovely - there was a nice mix of playing the bowls, clapping, singing and actions. The whole idea of kitchen percussion is a brilliant one for lockdown but good in usual times too."
"The level of what you did/taught was perfect for their age and similar to things they do at school."
"The children all thoroughly enjoyed the session and were engaged throughout. They enjoyed having the opportunity to hold their own ukulele and learn to play along to some simple songs."
"The session was delivered brilliantly and the different stages were broken down into small sections to allow all children to participate."
